Making a Difference in Communities

Good corporate citizenship is a core value of The Boeing CompanyAcross the globe, good corporate citizenship is a core value of The Boeing Company and integral to the way its business is conducted. Giving back to the communities in which we live and work is essential, and in Australia, this is no exception.

In doing so, Boeing and its people provide support to a wide range of Australian organisations and programs, including (but not limited to):

In addition to the above, Boeing recently contributed more than $200,000 to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009, thanks to the generosity of its employees in Australia and across the globe. Included in the final tally was US$50,000 courtesy of Boeing’s Global Corporate Citizenship (GCC) division, which volunteered to dollar-match employee donations from its disaster relief fund up to the US$50,000 total. This is just one example of how Boeing and its employees join forces to make a difference in Australian communities.

Boeing also encourages its employees to have a strong involvement in their communities through the Boeing Employee Community Fund (ECF). ECF is an employee-operated, non-profit program. It comprises locally owned, employee managed funds operating out of more than 60 of Boeing’s global sites.

Environmental preservation is a key focus area for Boeing’s GCC initiatives. By partnering with non-profit organisations and other key community stakeholders, Boeing promotes environmentally-friendly initiatives to tackle the challenges facing our eco-system.

In Australia, one successful example of GCC funding used to benefit communities is the recent sponsorship of the ‘EarthWorks’ partnership between respected Australian environmental organisation Greening Australia and the Gateway Learning Community (GLC), which is comprised of seven schools in Brisbane, Queensland, that collaborate to enhance learning opportunities.

EarthWorks is a year-long project aimed at empowering GLC students to build a better world by improving the habitat of their respective school grounds. With Greening Australia’s help, students will consult environmental experts from different disciplines, including permaculture, animal habitats, vegetation management and bush regeneration, before planning and implementing a project based on their school’s needs.

Boeing also acknowledges the effect its operations, products and services have on the environment, and is committed to reducing their impact by pioneering new technologies for environmentally progressive products and services - and to design, develop and build them in an environmentally responsible manner.
