At Boeing, veterans are part of our team. Boeing employs approximately 20,000 veterans around the globe, representing more than 15% of the company’s total workforce. In Australia, veterans make up more than 20% of the 2,000-plus employees at two defence subsidiaries, Boeing Defence Australia and Insitu Pacific — and half of these veterans are managers.
In the 90 years that Boeing has been in Australia, our efforts to recruit, hire, develop and promote veterans has become part of our DNA. These efforts were formally recognized in March 2018, when Boeing Defence Australia received the inaugural Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment award for Veterans’ Employer of the Year – Large Business.
Veterans remind us of why we do what we do, and that what we do matters to those in uniform. Boeing backs up its strong belief in supporting veterans by funding charities that help provide for the emotional, physical and mental needs of former service members, as well as organisations that assist service members who are transitioning to work in the private sector:
- The Australian War Memorial (AWM) is an iconic Australian institution widely regarded as being the custodian of its nation’s soul. Most recently, Boeing has funded their 3D Digital Exhibition; a creation of three dimensional digital models to view in an interactive online experience. These 50 iconic objects from the memorials collection enable the stories behind the items to be shared with new and established audiences regardless of their location.
Previously Boeing has supported the AWM’s Centenary of Anzac – Stories from the Western Front Exhibition, a representation of the ANZAC’s involvement in the First World War, a Virtual Reality project which allows the Australian War Memorial to use modern-day innovative and immersive technologies to educate visitors about past historical stories and the Afghanistan exhibition using the voices, words, images, relics and artefacts of the Afghanistan campaign to tell Australians the stories of their nation’s involvement in its longest conflict.
- Soldier On's national Mentoring Program to deliver supported, structured and results driven transitional guidance to veterans and their family members to maximize their outcome in securing employment. Previously Boeing has supported their Veteran and Family Support Program provides frontline, hands-on services to veterans and their families to ensure successful experiences and employment outcomes as they seek to reintegrate into civilian life.
- Legacy is proudly supported by Boeing Defence Australia. Legacy provides services to Australian families suffering financially and socially after the incapacitation or death of a spouse or parent, during or after their Defence service.
- American Australian Association Veterans’ Scholarship Fund enables eligible veterans to enroll in an accredited course of one year’s duration or longer that leads to the award of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program at a tertiary institution.
- Invictus Games. Boeing Australia was proud and honored to support the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 – an event about much more than just the power of sport. It captured our hearts, challenged our minds and changed lives forever. The event harnessed the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generated a wider understanding and response for veterans who have serviced their country.
