Boeing Achieves Final Operating Capability on Currawong Battlespace Communications System

BRISBANE, Queensland, Sept. 9, 2024 – The Chief of the Australian Army has declared Final Operating Capability on Boeing’s [NYSE:BA] Integrated Battlefield Telecommunications Network delivered for LAND 2072 Phase 2B.

Designed, built and delivered by Boeing Defence Australia (BDA), the Currawong Battlespace Communications System has modernised and revolutionised the Australian Army’s telecommunications.

“This capability gives deployed forces access to more voice, data and video services than ever before on the battlefield,” said Tom Minge, BDA battlespace communications system program manager.

“The project's ongoing Capability Enhancement Strategy also supports resilience against emerging threats by continuously adopting new and emerging technologies to meet the changing operational needs of the warfighter.”

While Final Operating Capability marks the final milestone for LAND 2072-2B, new capability and applications for the Currawong network and communications technology are being accelerated through BDA’s Battlespace Communications System Enterprise.

“The Joint Black Core Network, which forms the networking backbone for resilient, assured communications, has been purposely designed to integrate into the broader joint force C4 system to support development of a single, converged network,” Minge said.

“Our technology uses Open Architecture to maximise the Commonwealth’s investment in individual systems through shared hardware, software, training and support. This will result in better integration, increased survivability, agility and situational awareness."

The technology has already been selected for multiple programs and platforms including Army vehicles and AIR6500.
